Therapy for trauma and PTSD
“It Wasn’t That Bad.”
You may have said this to yourself before.
Sometimes we minimize our experiences because it feels easier than facing the pain. Other times, the people around us may have taught us to believe that what happened “wasn’t that bad” because acknowledging it would mean confronting uncomfortable truths, taking accountability, or recognizing the impact their actions had on us.
But you don’t have to prove that your trauma was “bad enough” to deserve healing.
There is no scale you have to measure your pain against.
Your experience is your experience. You have the right to acknowledge how it affected you—even if someone else experienced the same situation differently, believes you should be “over it,” or doesn’t recognize the impact it had on you.
At Courage To Heal Therapy Services, therapy can help you move beyond minimizing your experiences and begin validating your own story. Together, we can explore what happened, identify the emotional and relational impact it had on you, and recognize the beliefs you may have developed as a result—including self-blame, guilt, shame, and feelings of unworthiness.
You don’t have to determine whether your trauma was “bad enough.”
If it hurt you, it matters. If it changed you, it’s worth exploring.
Healing begins with giving yourself permission to acknowledge your experience without judgment—and learning that you can trust your own feelings, your own story, and your own worth.
